Beryl is a fascinating group of gemstones with a wide array of colors. Well known variations are the green emerald, blue aquamarine, yellow heliodor, pink morganite and, last but not least, the colorless goshenite. The name beryl comes from the Greek term βήρυλλος - ”beryllos” - alluding to the lovely blue-green color of the sea. The Dutch word “bril” is also derived from beryl: in 13th century Italy, the lenses of the first generation of eyeglasses were made of beryl since, in those days, pure glass was not transparent enough for this purpose.

And so, when Moss Beryl came our way, it quickly became a star of our 2020 Color Themes – “Coco” in Spring/Summer, and “Fresco” in Fall/Winter.

Beryl is commonly found in Mozambique, Brazil, Madagascar and Norway. The specific color and quality of the Moss Beryl in our collection is sourced in Brazil.
