Amethyst

As the story goes, Saint Valentine used to wear a ring with a fabulous, deep purple Amethyst. Ever since, this gemstone is a Valentines Day gift favorite. Not quite by accident, amethyst is the birthstone for February.

Color range

Amethyst is a popular, purple gemstone with color variations running from pale violet to deep purple. The most exclusive color is a reddish purple hue. Similar to ‘turqoise’, the word ‘amethyst’ refers to the gemstone as well as the color.

Hand-picked

Amethyst is a relatively hard gemstone and therefore well suited for our rings, earrings, pendants, and bracelets. At Bron, we prefer amethysts in a medium purple color – not too pale and definitely not too eggplant dark. Amethyst shines in different cuts: faceted, cabochon, random or checkboard.

Mohs scale of mineral hardness: 7 (diamond = 10)

Walk in the Park

Inspired by the early crocuses popping up in the park, we launched a spring collection a couple of years ago with amethyst playing the main part. The early and vibrant purple offered a cheerful contrast with the fresh greens of Aventurine, Chrysoprase, and Tourmaline.

Origin

Origin

Amethyst belongs to the quartz family and is found in geodes in sedimentary and volcanic rock. A geode is a hollow rock in which crystals are formed during a million year process. Amethyst is found in Brasil, Uruguay, Rusia (Oeral), Madagascar and Zambia.
